This image of #5048 shows three items which
are not part of an “Option Ready” K2: 1) Ken’s
custom brass plate; 2) the “option supplied” hex
spacer which is very easy to install; and 3) RF-J5
(Aux AF) which provides fixed level audio for
digital modes. Although adding J5 requires some
disassembly and additional soldering, it’s not part
of an “Option Ready” K2 because it doesn’t relate
to the installation of an existing Elecraft
®
option.
The two large white (2-pin) connectors along
the right side of the RF board are P6 (Aux RF) and
P3 (Aux 12V). They are provided with the options
that mount in the top cover. P6 is particularly diffi-
cult to install in a completed K2 as it entails remov-
ing the heatsink.
Although the Noise Blanker standoff is the only
one required by our un-module headers, all four RF
board mounted standoffs are included in an “Option
Ready” K2 since their later installation requires dis-
assembly of the enclosure, and because (for the
K60XV and K160RX standoffs) this disassembly
involves removing the heatsink.
Additionally, it's quite likely that someone
selling a used option wouldn't bother to
disassemble their radio and remove these spacers
to include them with the option. (In contrast, the
KAF2/KDSP2 provided hex spacer is very simple
to remove, although many KAF2 and KDSP2
"sellers" fail to include it when selling these
options.)
Not included in an
Option Ready” K2.
